Content Placeholder¶
The Content Placeholder widget marks the spot in a layout where each page puts its own content. A layout provides the frame that every page shares, such as the navigation and the header. The placeholder is the hole in that frame. When you build a page on the layout, the page's widgets go into that hole.
See also Sidebar Layout, the usual frame a placeholder sits in, and Layouts and Sub-layouts for how layouts and pages fit together.
Using it¶
In the design editor, drop a Content Placeholder into the layout where page content should appear, usually the content area of a Sidebar Layout. Give it a Name such as main. A layout can have more than one placeholder, for example a second one called side for a side panel. Each page based on the layout then gets one area per placeholder to fill.
Options¶
| Option | Values | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | A name | Empty | Identifies the placeholder, so the page's matching content is placed here |
| Box Style | Sizing and spacing | — | The box around the page content |
Tips¶
A few things to keep in mind:
- Placeholders belong in layouts, not in pages. The layout supplies the frame, and each page's own content lands in the placeholder.
- A placeholder the page has not filled yet shows a click to fill button in the designer.
